Research Guide & Use
The archive holdings of the Jewish Museum Vienna largely include the documentation of the first Jewish Museum as well as the other permanent loans and collections of our institution. This consists, among other things, of art postcards, graphics and photographs, illustrations of Jewish holidays, synagogues, archive materials of Jewish clubs and associations, as well as of Jewish life up to the postwar period, including contemporary historical documents and photographs.
Personal estates from artists and families form another collection. However, this only constitutes a fragment and is not representative of the diverse and large Jewish population of Vienna before 1938. Only very rarely can former family members actually be identified in it; to this end, research in the archives of the Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) is more effective.
